Bitcoin (BTC) gave back early gains around Wednesday’s Wall Street open as markets prepared for the US Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision.
Key points:
Bitcoin fell around 0.3% on Wednesday after upside volatility failed to sustain past $81,687.
US stock markets tracked sideways into the run-up to the Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) interest-rate decision and press conference after South Korea’s KOSPI gained 6.6%.
BTC/USD stalled below its 50-day simple moving average at $81,831, which acted as local resistance.
US stocks tread water as focus turns to Fed chair Warsh
Data from TradingView showed BTC/USD failing to break beyond $81,700, instead reversing to as low as $80,297 on Bitstamp. At the time of writing, the pair was down 0.3% on the day.
US stocks opened flat ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting statement and press conference from Fed chair Kevin Warsh. Markets overwhelmingly expected officials to hold rates in their current 3.75-4% range, with the focus instead on Warsh’s language and comments on the economy.
Data from CME Group’s FedWatch Tool showed 90.6% odds of a pause at Wednesday’s FOMC, while the outcome for the December meeting remained a 0.25% rate hike.

Commenting, Keith Alan, cofounder of crypto trading platform Material Indicators, saw Warsh’s words potentially shifting the December odds. Between the two meetings, traders would be digesting the result of the US midterm elections on Nov. 3.
“Markets may have priced in no rate change, but they haven’t priced in the election outcome,” he summarized on Tuesday.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index did not follow South Korea’s KOSPI Composite Index higher after the KOSPI closed up 6.6%, its best daily gain since July.

In his latest commentary, data analyst Charl van Zyl suggested that the Fed move and the week’s key tech earnings data would materially influence market views of the health of the AI sector.
“Even after a nearly 10% two-day bounce, the index is still 34% below its June 22 record of 9,115. On Monday it closed 40% below that peak,” he noted of the index.
BTC price gains capped by 50-day moving average
After BTC price upside momentum faded, the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) at $81,831 functioned as resistance on low time frames.

“A 4H close below $80,565 reduces the probability of retesting resistance at the 50-Day SMA,” Alan commented.

Analyzing exchange order-book liquidity, onchain analytics platform Glassnode flagged bid liquidity moving further below $80,000, shifting the likely reversal area lower should downside accelerate.
“Only $3.4M in bids remains at $80K. The bids have moved down to $78K-79K, where orders add up to about $42M, up from about $24M in mid-October,” it wrote in the latest edition of its weekly newsletter, The Week Onchain.
“That is the largest block of bids near price, and the first place where we would expect buyers to step in on a dip.”

Share Bank of Canada raises interest rates for the first time in three years on social media
The Bank of Canada (BoC) has raised its key interest rate for the first time in more than three years and warned that further increases might be needed to prevent soaring energy costs from fueling broader inflation.
Wednesday’s quarter-point hike to 2.5 percent was widely expected, while the bank also ramped up its inflation forecast for 2027 to 3.1 percent from the 2 percent it had predicted in July. Growth this year is set to be 1 percent, higher than the 0.7 percent seen in July.
“With the outlook for inflation substantially higher and the economy showing resilience, an increase in the policy rate is needed to reduce the risk that elevated energy prices could spill over and become generalised inflation,” BoC governor Tiff Macklem said.
“There could be a need to increase the policy rate further, but given uncertainties, we will proceed carefully,” he added.
The annual inflation rate hit 3.2 percent in September, above the bank’s 1 to 3 percent target range, and was driven almost solely by higher energy and energy-related transportation costs.
Macklem said inflation was expected to end the year at 3.5 percent and stay at around 3 percent for most of 2027, before returning close to the 2 percent target by the middle of 2028.
“Governing Council agreed that risks to inflation had increased and there was less scope for monetary accommodation,” Macklem said.
The rate hike was the first since July 2023.
“We don’t expect that core measures of inflation will accelerate as much as the bank fears, particularly if global energy prices ease a little, and as a result we don’t think that the policy rate will need to move above 2.75 percent,” said Andrew Grantham, senior economist at CIBC Capital Markets.

Money markets are pricing in another 25 basis point rate cut in January and see the benchmark rate going up to 3.25 percent by December next year.
Past experience suggests that businesses will increase the cost of products and services in line with changing costs over the next year, increasing overall inflation, Macklem said.
“The combination of higher energy prices and pass-through increases the persistence of inflation,” he said, although he added that there are lingering uncertainties such as the trade rift with the United States and a faster resolution of the conflict in the Middle East.
Economists who opposed a rise said core inflation, which strips out the cost of volatile items, is still hovering at about 2 percent. They also say a rate hike could impede modest economic recovery, given US trade tensions and a weak job market.
Macklem said new US tariffs would slow the economy in the fourth quarter, but expressed confidence that growth should pick up again in 2027 as consumer spending continues, exports pick up and business investment strengthens.
After a robust annualised growth of 3.3 percent in the second quarter, the economy is likely to slow to 2 percent in the third quarter and further down to 0.8 percent in the fourth quarter, the BoC’s new monetary policy report projected.
The report, however, upgraded its gross domestic product (GDP) forecast for next year and the year after to 2 percent from 1.8 percent for both 2027 and 2028, as predicted in July.
Macklem said this additional growth would help absorb the slack, or its unused capacity, in the economy.
The BoC’s next rate decision is on December 9.

Culper alleges Cerebras runs continuous “dummy operations” to keep its wafers from cooling, which it says speeds degradation.
Culper Research disclosed a short position in Cerebras Systems on Wednesday, alleging the AI chipmaker’s wafer-scale processors have a field lifespan of only 1.5 to 2.5 years, Investing.com reported. Cerebras shares fell about 4%.
Culper alleges Cerebras programs its wafers to run continuous “dummy operations” so they never cool down, citing comments it attributes to a Cerebras solutions architect at a June event in Berlin and a “dummy tokens” field in decompiled client software. It argues wafers that never cool degrade rapidly.
Short seller disputes connector claim
Culper also disputes Chief Executive Officer Andrew Feldman’s claim that Cerebras invented a novel connector material to address thermal expansion, saying the company uses PariPoser, a material developed in the 1980s by Paricon Technologies. Cerebras had not publicly responded to the allegations.

CHANGES COULD LIMIT RATE HIKES: ANALYST
Warsh also said on Wednesday that the Fed will retain its schedule of eight meetings a year, but dedicate one in 2027 and potentially two in 2028 to broader monetary policy strategy rather than interest rate decisions.
Gareth Berry, forex and rates strategist at Macquarie Group, described the move as a "clever way of effectively reducing the number of meetings without actually doing so", adding that it would limit the scope for the Fed to adjust rates.
Speaking to CNA's Asia First, Berry noted that US two-year Treasury yields fell after the announcement, while markets scaled back expectations for interest rate hikes over the next 12 months.
"That's a clue that the market thinks reducing effectively the number of meetings from eight to seven reduces the opportunity for future rate hikes, and therefore it allowed some of the froth, if you like, to come out of the pricing that was already there," he said.
"So, the market's very clear that it means potentially less tightening."

Markets are closely monitoring the SEC’s response to Anthropic’s IPO filing and any amendments indicating share pricing or count. High demand from institutional investors during the IPO roadshow could be consistent with a market cap exceeding $1.25 trillion. Additionally, any strategic investor movements or secondary market pricing on platforms like Forge and Hiive will be key indicators of market sentiment leading up to the IPO.
Anthropic , the AI company behind the Claude model, has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) on Nasdaq, sparking significant interest in pre-IPO investment opportunities. The company’s latest private valuation stands at approximately $965 billion following a $65 billion fundraising round. Investors seeking exposure to Anthropic ahead of its IPO can access it through exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that hold positions in the company via special purpose vehicles (SPVs). Tema’s LAZR ETF, for example, has a 10.5% allocation in Anthropic, reflecting substantial interest in the AI sector.

The sellers, including Millennium, Brevan Howard and Goldman Sachs, exited as the cash-and-carry trade’s premium over Treasury bills shrank.
Nine hedge funds and banks cut about 68,000 BTC of spot Bitcoin ETF exposure between September 2025 and June 2026, according to Galaxy Research, Decrypt reported. Galaxy said the selling reflected a fading cash-and-carry trade rather than bets against Bitcoin.
The sellers were Millennium Management, Brevan Howard, Goldman Sachs, Capula Management, Farallon Capital, D.E. Shaw, Schonfeld Strategic Advisors, Symmetry Investments and Tudor Investment. Holdings reported by 13F filers fell 14% to 307,000 BTC, while the roughly 2,200 other filers added about 20,000 BTC.
Basis trade premium shrinks
The trade buys spot ETF shares and shorts CME futures to capture the basis. That basis averaged 4.8% annualized in the 30 days to Oct. 21, just 0.6 percentage points above three-month Treasury bills. “That arithmetic, not the price, is why the multi-strategy desks left,” wrote Alex Thorn, Galaxy’s head of firmwide research.
Morgan Stanley’s wealth management arm, Mubadala and the Abu Dhabi Investment Council were among the buyers. Funds have added 87,000 BTC since the June low, which Galaxy described as directional buying.

The 9% fixed-rate loan covers about 80% of a $165 million cluster of 2,303 Nvidia GB200 GPUs contracted to Cohere for $225 million.
HIVE Digital Technologies has secured a roughly $129 million fixed-rate credit facility to buy GPUs for its sovereign AI contract with Cohere, Proactive Investors reported. The loan, signed by subsidiary BUZZ Alpha Cloud with an institutional lender, carries a 9% fixed rate over three years.
The financing covers about 80% of the cost of a $165 million cluster of 2,303 Nvidia GB200 GPUs, Chief Executive Officer Aydin Kilic said. The cluster is contracted to Cohere at a fixed $225 million total contract value over three years, including compute, connectivity and storage.
Repaid from contract revenue, no new shares
HIVE will own the GPUs outright at the end of the term with no residual payment and plans to repay the loan from contract revenue. No common shares are being issued; the company is funding its equity portion from $245 million of 0% convertible bonds sold earlier this year. “We have signed $600 million of TCV for GPU cloud deals this year,” Kilic said.

Dinari’s dShares are backed 1:1 by real equities held in custody and keep holder rights to dividends and corporate actions.
Dinari, a provider of tokenized US equities, is running its onchain stock infrastructure on Avalanche, from the Dinari Financial Network Layer 1 it launched in August 2025 to dShares on Avalanche’s C-Chain, according to an Avalanche announcement. The network acts as a coordination and settlement layer for tokenized securities.
dShares are tokens backed 1:1 by real underlying equities, and holders keep rights to dividends and corporate actions. Dinari is an SEC-registered transfer agent and distributes the tokens through fintech partners via an API.
US investors gain access to the full S&P 500
In August, Dinari opened 724 tokenized US stocks and ETFs, including the entire S&P 500, to eligible US investors on Avalanche, Ethereum, Arbitrum and Base, with purchases in USDC, The Defiant reported. Dividends now pay out natively in USDC, while 24/7 trading and same-day settlement remain dependent on regulatory requirements.
