Pre-IPO perpetual futures tracking Anthropic slid about 7% in 24 hours, days after the AI company filed its S-1 with the SEC
Anthropic finally put its paperwork where its valuation is. The AI company filed an S-1 registration statement with the SEC on October 26, 2026, formally starting its path to a public listing.
Traders betting on that listing celebrated by selling. Anthropic perpetual futures fell about 7% in 24 hours, days after the filing landed.
What the filing shows, and what traders did with it
Anthropic’s profile has a striking headline number. The company reported first-half revenue of $16.3 billion.
It also reported a net loss of $80.7 billion. That loss stems primarily from accounting adjustments on convertible notes, not from the day-to-day cost of running the business.
Convertible notes are loans that can turn into equity later. When a company’s value rises sharply, the accounting treatment of those notes can produce enormous paper losses, even if no cash leaves the building.
The filing positions Anthropic for a potential Nasdaq listing under the ticker ANT. That listing could come as early as mid-November 2026, though nothing is locked in until shares actually price.
How Anthropic perps work
The contracts that slid are pre-IPO perpetual futures, offered on various offshore crypto platforms and on Coinbase. A perpetual future is a derivative with no expiry date that tracks the price of something, in this case the expected valuation of a company.
The contracts are cash-settled and carry no equity or voting rights. No actual Anthropic shares are involved at any point.

Coinbase has said the eventual IPO price could differ by around 25% in either direction from current derivative prices.
The numbers behind the bet
Recent trading puts the contracts in the range of $1,500 to $1,900. That range implies a market valuation above Anthropic’s previous private round, which valued the company at $965 billion.
In mid-to-late October 2026, prices across platforms ranged from roughly $1,784 to roughly $1,927. At those levels, the implied valuation sat between $1.7 trillion and $2 trillion.
The pattern has also played out before. When Coinbase’s pre-IPO perpetual contracts on Anthropic opened on June 22, they started at approximately $1,728. Within hours, they had fallen by about 7%, to around $1,628.
Why a filing can push prices down
On paper, an S-1 should reduce uncertainty. Investors finally get audited numbers instead of rumors and leaked funding memos.
But less uncertainty does not always mean higher prices. Before the filing, traders could imagine almost anything about Anthropic’s finances. After the filing, they have to price a specific revenue figure next to a specific loss figure. Even if the loss is mostly accounting, it is now a real number in a public document.
There is also the classic market rhythm of buying the rumor and selling the news. Traders who positioned early for an IPO announcement may simply be taking profits now that the announcement exists.
What this means for traders and the IPO
For anyone holding these contracts, the most important figure may be Coinbase’s own caveat. A possible 25% swing between derivative prices and the IPO price means the perp market is a forecast, not a promise.
That gap cuts both ways. If Anthropic prices its shares below where perps trade, long holders could take a hit as contracts converge toward real-world pricing. If it prices above, shorts face the same problem in reverse.
The implied valuation of $1.7 trillion to $2 trillion also sets a high bar for the actual offering. Bankers and Anthropic will set an IPO price based on institutional demand, not on what offshore derivatives traders were willing to pay in October.
What to watch next is straightforward. Track whether the potential mid-November listing date holds, where the IPO price range lands once it is set, and how far the perps drift from that range in the meantime.

Binance hack nears FTX hole in size but not in panic, Dragonfly’s Qureshi says

Qureshi said industry cooperation and confidence in Binance helped limit market fallout after the exchange's record-breaking hack.
The crypto market has weathered Binance’s $6.3 billion hack with less disruption than it experienced during the FTX collapse, according to Dragonfly managing partner Haseeb Qureshi.
Qureshi said in a Friday statement that crypto prices fell only a few percent after the incident, while investors continued buying the dip despite a global macroeconomic downturn. Outflows were also muted, and tokens directly affected by the hack largely maintained their value as the market expected Binance to cover the losses.
The contrast comes against the backdrop of FTX’s November 2022 collapse, which left customers facing an estimated $8 billion in losses and contributed to a series of bankruptcies across the crypto sector.
Although Binance’s losses were only around 25% smaller than FTX’s shortfall, Qureshi said confidence in Binance’s business and its financial capacity helped prevent a more severe market reaction. He also credited coordinated efforts across the industry to safeguard assets and facilitate recovery.
Binance said Friday it had committed more than $6.3 billion from its corporate funds to reimburse affected users and had started restoring their assets. The exchange already holds $5 billion in the token assets involved and is sourcing the remaining amount through market purchases and OTC transactions.

Bitcoin’s decline following the Binance incident was relatively limited compared to its reaction to FTX’s collapse.
The largest crypto asset fell approximately 5%, from above $80,800 to $76,500, versus a roughly 26% drop from $21,000 to $15,476 during the FTX crisis, onchain data shows.
However, Bitcoin was already in a deep bear market before FTX collapsed. The market had already been weighed down by macro tightening and earlier failures across the crypto industry.
Throughout 2022, aggressive Federal Reserve rate hikes reduced demand for risk assets. The downturn was further compounded by the Terra/UST collapse in May, the failures of crypto lenders Celsius and Voyager, and the bankruptcy of Three Arrows Capital.

Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, was hit late Thursday by what investigators say is the biggest crypto hack in history, with $6.3 billion in funds impacted and roughly half of those assets frozen.
Customer withdrawals have been temporarily suspended, and co-CEO Richard Teng promised the exchange will cover all losses.
"We are committed to covering all hacked losses through our company funds. Your assets are safe," Teng said on social media.
Binance said it has money set aside in a Secure Asset Fund for Users to handle extreme cases, such as security breaches.
Binance co-CEO Yi He said in a separate social media post Friday morning that customer withdrawals should resume within 48 hours.
"We are rebuilding the withdrawal service, and we are not switching it back until it passes rigorous testing," noted Teng on Friday. "We are very hopeful that users will be able to withdraw prior to the Sunday deadline."
Teng said the hack was not carried out by one person. Initial findings pointed to a compromised laptop, but further review revealed broader security breaches.
"This was a complex attack," Teng said. "The attacker also used a self-destruct mechanism that destroyed tooling and tracers."
The attack has rattled crypto markets and related stocks. Bitcoin (BTC-USD) tumbled 5% to hover below $77,000 on Friday.
Other major crypto assets also tumbled after the hack, with ether (ETH-USD) dropping 4% to around $2,200. Binance's native token, BNB (BND-USD), also plunged by more than 6%.
Crypto-related stocks traded lower, led by shares of Circle, trading platforms Coinbase (COIN) and Robinhood (HOOD), and digital-asset Treasury giant Strategy (MSTR).
Binance said that about $3 billion in assets have been "frozen on-chain so far."
The frozen assets include over $2 billion in stablecoins. Tether, the world's largest stablecoin issuer, "froze more than 1.567B" of its USDT stablecoin in relation to the hack," CEO Paolo Ardoino said on X. The second-largest issuer, Circle (CRCL), froze another $800 million "in coordination with law enforcement," CEO Jeremy Allaire said. World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency venture co-founded by President Trump and his sons, said it froze $27 million of its stablecoin, USD1, associated with the hack, according to CEO Zack Witkoff.
Although details are still emerging, the hack is shaping up to be the largest crypto theft in history, far exceeding the previous record set in February 2025, when attackers stole $1.5 billion from the crypto derivatives exchange ByBit.

Tokenized equities avoid funding costs associated with perpetual futures, making them attractive for longer-term holders, according to Pulido.
Tokenized assets will need strong legal protections, dependable valuations and underlying credit quality to attract investors as onchain markets expand, according to Sebastian Pulido, Managing Director and Head of Onchain Asset Management at Grayscale Investments, in comments published by Pendle.
He said the success of tokenization will vary across asset classes, warning that placing illiquid assets onchain does not automatically create liquidity, particularly in lending markets. Pulido views tokenized equities and perpetual futures as complementary ways to access the same exposure, with tokenized shares offering longer-term holders an alternative that avoids perpetual futures funding payments.
Tokenized equities are also increasingly being used as collateral for loans and perpetual futures positions. However, the market faces challenges from around-the-clock token trading against underlying assets with fixed trading hours, as well as differences in redemption schedules and fragmented liquidity across chains and venues.
Pulido said institutions are currently more comfortable holding tokenized funds than deploying them in DeFi, but expects this to change as they become more familiar with protocols and asset movements.

By 2040, he anticipates more assets being issued natively onchain, brokerage wrappers offering alternative access and credit being monitored through more transparent data than periodic reports.

The cost of insuring Intel's debt posted its biggest one-day jump since October 2022, alongside record spreads for Broadcom and SpaceX
Intel’s five-year credit default swap spread widened to a record 123.5 basis points on October 30, 2026. It was the biggest single-day move for the contract since October 2022.
The chipmaker had plenty of company. Credit traders spent the day repricing risk across the tech sector, and the bill for protecting against a default went up for several of the industry’s biggest names at once.
What moved, and by how much
A credit default swap works much like an insurance policy on a company’s bonds. The buyer pays a regular premium, and if the borrower defaults, the seller covers the loss.
That premium is quoted in basis points, where one basis point equals one hundredth of a percentage point. A spread of 123.5 bps means protection costs 1.235% of the insured amount per year. When the number climbs, the market believes default risk has risen, or at least that it deserves more compensation for carrying that risk.
Intel’s spread was sitting at 104 bps as of October 28. Before the spike, the contract had traded in a range of 90 to 104 bps. Two trading days later, it was at 123.5 bps, well clear of the old ceiling.
Other tech names saw similar moves on the same day:

Broadcom: its CDS rose by approximately 10 bps to a record 175.4 bps.
its CDS rose by approximately 10 bps to a record 175.4 bps. SpaceX: its five-year CDS jumped by around 20 bps to 266.5 bps, also a record.
its five-year CDS jumped by around 20 bps to 266.5 bps, also a record. Alphabet: its CDS climbed by about 5.1 bps to around 84 bps, its largest rise since July.
Why Alphabet’s quarter rattled everyone else
The trigger was Alphabet’s third-quarter results, which disappointed the market. The weak report fed into a broader worry that has been building around the sector: that the pace of AI-related capital spending across the semiconductor and tech supply chain may not be sustainable.
Stock investors were less unified. Equity markets gave a mixed response, which makes the credit move stand out more.
A market that has grown up fast
The scale of hedging activity adds context. CDS trading volume tied to the largest hyperscalers and chipmakers has surged more than eightfold so far this year, reaching $176 billion.
For Intel specifically, the comparison to October 2022 is the benchmark worth watching. The latest move was the largest one-day widening in roughly four years, and it pushed the spread to a level the contract had never recorded. Going from a 90 to 104 bps band to 123.5 bps is a meaningful break from recent trading behavior.
What this means for investors and the sector
Intel, Broadcom, SpaceX and Alphabet are very different businesses, yet their default protection moved together on a single earnings report.
With $176 billion traded year-to-date across the biggest hyperscalers and chipmakers, CDS pricing has become a more visible real-time gauge of how nervous the market is about the AI capex cycle.
